Their Hands and Ours

from Baron of Bilried by Bradley Herr

/

lyrics

Praise the thinking minds that put ideas in demand,
But don't forget the blood that spills to put them in your hands

If suits and ties deserve the pay for doing all the work,
And benefit from those that they outclass,
Why is it we identify the ties and suits as posh,
And call the other lot the working class?

If labor is a task that yields respect and independence,
With money and success as its reward,
Why are the ones who labor, then, the ones who are intended,
To aspire to what they cannot afford?

And if the board who gambles with one hundred million loses,
And writes it off as mere financial risk,
Why can the board not sympathize with broken bones and bruises,
Against their tired eyes and swollen wrists?

And if the heads of systems made to profit from the suffering of
people are the ones who rule
then surely a majority would benefit by taking up
the rock that splits these heads in two
